Do you often feel like you are running in circles, scrambling to get anything accomplished and at the end of the day you feel like you haven’t gotten anything done?
If so, read on.
Before we get into it, I need you to start thinking in terms of being proactive rather than reactive.
In order to do this we need to start with the definition of proactive.
(of a person, policy, or action) creating or controlling a situation by causing something to happen rather than responding to it after it has happened.
Ex: “Be proactive in identifying and preventing potential problems”
PROBLEMS! That’s what you get when you are not operating in proactive mode. When you aren’t being intentional with what you’re doing throughout your day.
First is Preparation.
Being prepared is the start of being proactive. Studying what others have been through and the mistakes that they have made will prepare you for what’s to come. I have heard that the market/economy will always punish those that aren’t prepared.
Second is Intention.
Next, be intentional with your goals, your schedule and your actions. You should have a set schedule of how your day is going to go.
Your goals should be clear and written down daily. Your productivity should be based on accomplishing your goals and the items you have prioritized on your schedule.
Now I know that we are human and there are times that reaction is needed. You should be aiming for 90% proactive and 10% reactive modes. What I mean by that is schedule time in your day where you handle items like emails, phone calls, text messages, and social media, the triggers that cause reaction. The way you keep these things from controlling your day is to know going in that you have designated a specific amount of time for each task on your schedule and more importantly, stick to it. Time is the most valuable thing on this planet. You cannot get time back.
Last is Commit.
Lastly, commit to being proactive. Put your foot down. Make it non-negotiable. If you find yourself off of your program don’t get upset, just get right back to it. Start focusing on stringing proactive days together.
These 3 tips will lead you into a new world where you will be more productive, more successful, and have less stress than you have ever felt.
